Firewire field monitor on PC

Sometimes on set i need a monitor solution to my camera. If i have a mac i can use a simple free amp called FlipFlop. The site is no longer available, so you can have it here. And connect you camera to mac via a simple firewire cable and use the mac as a field monitor.

But if you have a PC you can use VLC Player. Connect your camera to pc and open vlc. Select media and open capture device. In that window click refresh list on video device name, select AV/C Subunit and hit play.

Now you have a great and free field monitor on your PC!

Change Login Wallpaper on Mac

How to change the mac login wallpaper? That simple just rename your favorite wallpaper to DefaultDesktop.jpg and copy to /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg type your password and you are done.

Before you do this copy the original file to another place. Just in case..

Change PC icon on Mac

Leopard and Snow Leopard have a stupid pc icon on the side bar. But there is a way to change it.

Open a Finder Window and go to Macintosh HD>System>Library>CoreServices.

There you have to right-click on CoreTypes.bundle and press «Show Package Content». There is a folder named «Resources» all of the icons are there.

The bluescreen PC icon is the one named public.generic-pc.icns. copy the file to your desktop rename it to public.generic-pc-old.icns and copy again to the same folder, you need to put your password. Them take you own icon and rename it to public.generic-pc.icns and copy to the same folder enter the password and you are done.

Windows 7 64 bit on 2006 Mac Pro 1,1

I have successful installed Windows 7 on my 2006 Mac Pro 1,1. Apple says that isn't supported but in fact is. The main problem after install is to get the drivers. You can't install the drivers using the bootcamp installer because it says that isn't supported.

So copy the drivers folder to your desktop and then navigate to Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple you will find a BootCamp64.msi

To run it you need to have administration privileges, so run cmd.exe as administrator and navigate to Drivers\Apple them type:

msiexec /i BootCamp64.msi

It will start a massive drivers and software install, after reboot you will have a unsupported system run like a charm.

P.S. Get the drivers by inserting the Snow Leopard DVD on

Bootcamp on Snow Leopard Server

The Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server don't have the option of Boot camp, if you want to have in the same machine for testing install perhaps the Debian or Windows Server you can't. So just copy the bootcamp application from a Snow Leopard Client and copy to utilities folder of Snow Leopard Server and Run it to make a partition and install. On reboot press and holt option key to choose what OS to Boot.

Repair disk permissions

So after make a fresh install of mac osx leopard on my mac pro the another hardrives are having problems in disk permissions, some programs don't open the files because of permissions so there is a solution:

sudo chown -R username:staff /Volumes/diskname

you will need to put the password and replace  "username" by the your username and "diskname" by the volume name.
